Gemological Institute of America Classes

Gemological Institute of America (GIA)

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is renowned for their gemological and jewelry education, and they provide courses and classes around the world and online. GIA courses are a core part of the pre-requisite education to become an AGS titleholder.

Through GIA’s generosity, AGS is able to offer:

Lab Class Sponsorships at the American Gem Society

March 11-15, 2019, Diamond Grading Lab
March 18-22, 2019, Gem Identification Lab
October 16-18, 2019, Colored Stone Grading Lab
October 21-25, 2019, Diamond Grading Lab

The American Gem Society is proud to host a series of GIA's most popular lab classes twice a year---usually in the spring and in the fall---at the AGS headquarters in Las Vegas. These instructor-led, hands-on workshops are your opportunity to work with a credentialed GIA instructor who can present and explain diamond grading, colored gemstone identification, and colored stone evaluation. No previous education or experience is necessary; no jewelry industry affiliation is required. All interested students are welcome.

AGS Member Scholarships for GIA Education

Scholarships for 2019 have been allocated. Check back for 2020 scholarship information.

Made possible by a Grant from the GIA Endowment Fund, the American Gem Society allows AGS members access to the prerequisite education needed from GIA to earn AGS credentials. Applications are accepted during specified enrollment periods only.
