“Don’t sell something you don’t believe in,” is the best professional advice that Joshua (Josh) Israileff of ASBA USA, Inc. has ever received. It’s advice that upholds the American Gem Society’s (AGS) mission of promoting the highest standards of ethical conduct and professional behavior.
For over 25 years, ASBA USA, Inc. has been owned and operated by the Israileff family and are long-time members of the American Gem Society. Josh, Nathan, and Nicolai Israileff carry on their family's tradition of being a prime supplier of Tahitian cultured pearls and fine quality finished diamond, colored stone, and cultured pearl jewelry.
Josh had the opportunity to teach a hands-on session about saltwater pearls at Conclave 2017 in Hollywood and will be presenting this popular session again at Conclave 2018 in Nashville!

How has being a member of the American Gem Society helped you and ASBA USA, Inc.?
Initially, being an American Gem Society member was helpful to us when meeting prospective clients. However, after becoming more involved we have found the seminars and classes to be instrumental in growing our business and our knowledge!
While attending Conclave, tell us about some actionable insights you’ve received and have taken back to your business.
Personally, I have always found the discussions on upcoming trends and styles to be fascinating. It is good to hear what looks are coming through the pipeline and how customers feel like they can merchandise it in their stores. We leave Conclave feeling like we have an edge on what to design and present to our clients.
Do you leverage your AGS membership in your sales presentation?
Yes we do. I instruct all my sales people to mention our involvement with the AGS when discussing material quality and sourcing. Having the AGS name behind us helps our customers know they are getting the best materials available.
Have you taken your business to the next level by using digital media?
In the past year we have found that Instagram is an amazing tool to keep in touch with our clients and to meet new customers as well. We are able to showcase our new designs as soon as they are finished, while also giving our customers the opportunity to use our artwork for their own accounts.
Is there a particular design or piece that you’re most proud of?
Personally, I am particularly proud of a pearl pendant we did last year. My mother designed it and we entered it with the AGTA Spectrum Awards, and won! It was wonderful to see her hard work recognized by her peers. [14K rose gold pendant featuring a 13mm Tahitian cultured Pearl accented with Diamonds (.37 ctw.)]
If you weren’t in the jewelry industry, Josh, what would you be doing?
If I wasn’t in the jewelry industry, I would more than likely still be working at UBS Financial, or owning a bar in the Caribbean. Either one would be fine but not as rewarding as the jewelry industry!
What advice do you have for new members of the AGS?
Our advice is simple, GET INVOLVED! Meet the members, exchange ideas, learn what is going on in the jewelry world and just grow your Rolodex of people to call when you need to pick someone’s brain.
