Bio

Mr. Guginsky is a highly decorated 24-year veteran of the New York City Police Department, where he served as the commanding officer of the Organized Theft Squad before retiring from the Police Department in 2011. This unit specialized in targeting violent criminal enterprises and organized crime groups that targeted the gem, jewelry, and watch industries. He has successfully led investigations in many important and high-profile cases, including robberies, homicides, burglaries, and distraction crimes. His work has also focused on the fences that these groups use to dispose of criminal proceeds.

In 2005, Mr. Guginsky received the prestigious Jewelers’ Security Alliance James B. White Award in recognition and appreciation for outstanding and successful law enforcement efforts on behalf of the jewelry industry.

In 2006, Mr. Guginsky was honored with an award from the National Retail Federation Retail Partnership, which recognized the significant impact he had on organized retail theft.

In 2008, Mr. Guginsky was honored by the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department for his significant part in the investigation and apprehension of those responsible for the shooting and robbery of a Georgetown jeweler.

Mr. Guginsky has been featured on the television program 60 Minutes and various other media outlets due to his recognized expertise in jewelry crime and organized retail theft. He works closely with a wide variety of federal and local police agencies in coordinating efforts to protect the industry.
