Gem Legacy Announces Silicosis Prevention Initiative Project will provide masks and filters to fight the onset of silicosis among tanzanite miners [ROYAL OAK, Mich., April 5, 2022] – Gem Legacy, a 501c3 nonprofit supporting vocational training, entrepreneurship, and community development in East African artisanal gem mining communities, is launching a new fundraising initiative to prevent silicosis in the tanzanite mining areas of Merelani, Tanzania. Gem Legacy has committed to buying masks and filters, at a cost of $30 per set-up, for 5,000 miners. AGS Conclave 2021 Postponed

After much consideration, the American Gem Society (AGS) recently announced the postponement of Conclave 2021 until the fall. We are working on selecting a new date and location, and will update you as soon as possible. By postponing the event, we can provide a better experience for attendees. American Gem Society and AGS Laboratories are excited to announce that Justin Moore has joined the team as our new Director of Technology. Justin will direct the organizations’ technological vision by overseeing research and development, IT operations, infrastructure, and engineering. Justin joins the team with more than a decade of experience in information technology. Conclave 2020 is Canceled Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The American Gem Society (AGS) announced to its members that Conclave, slated for April 27-29 in Denver, Colorado, has been canceled. The decision was made in light of a National State of Emergency that was declared on Friday of last week and amidst growing concerns of the virus outbreak. As Conclave is core to the membership’s ongoing education, the Society is exploring options for a virtual mini-conference for later this year.
