Member Spotlight: Christophe Danhier

Christophe Danhier, born in Nantes, France, was raised by his grandmother in Les Sables d’Olonne and Paris.

At 19, he moved to Santa Monica, California, to enjoy its freedom and natural beauty while pursuing a degree in gemology. After the 1994 Northridge earthquake, he relocated to New York City in search of a more vibrant economy and better job prospects in the jewelry industry.

In New York City, Christophe took up a job as a Zale Quality Assurance inspector. This role exposed him to major diamond and colored gemstone houses and manufacturers, allowing him to gain firsthand knowledge and develop a keen sense for the various manufacturing techniques and evaluation processes involved in jewelry design. After a few years working for Zale and as a gemstone salesperson in NYC, he felt confident in his expertise and decided to establish his own jewelry manufacturing and design company in 2000.

On September 11, 2001, during the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, Christophe had to relocate his operation to Midtown Manhattan.

He vividly recalls carrying hundreds of rubber molds down the 18 floors of his building, which was just one block from Ground Zero, while firefighters, covered in white dust, were still clearing the buildings in his neighborhood. “This was a significant physical challenge that I hadn’t anticipated encountering in this industry.”

Over the years, Christophe cultivated relationships with fine retail stores from Hawaii to St. Barthélemy, refining the designs and styles of his line to cater to a discerning clientele.

During this period, Christophe built a reliable network of suppliers and friends in major gemstone and diamond centers across South America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. He emphasizes that establishing trust and productivity with suppliers worldwide requires a combination of smiles, respect, observation, and confidence.

Through his membership in the American Gem Society, Christophe values the community of professionals who have a profound understanding of gemology and jewelry making. He adds, “These professionals are dedicated to educating their customers and sharing their expertise, and they can truly appreciate the sensibilities of my work.”

By showcasing his jewelry at the Vicenza Jewelry Show in Italy and the Hong Kong Jewelry Show, Christophe expanded his customer base to include new clients in Europe and Asia. This experience honed his skills and prepared him to compete in the global jewelry industry. Consequently, he secured various private VIP exhibitions in Japan, Europe, and aboard luxury cruise ships by collaborating with renowned retailers worldwide.

Currently, Christophe is dedicated to his latest collection, which combines exquisite design with rare gemstones.

“When evaluating a gemstone’s potential, I leverage my design and manufacturing expertise to transform it into a wearable and visually appealing piece. I’ve just selected several parcels, including garnets, opals, and sapphires, and I’m currently transforming them into exquisite pieces of jewelry. I hope you’ll find a warm and loving home for them by wearing them.”
