Parent’s Guide: Kid-Friendly Picks in Austin

Want a day out with the family? Check out the 96th annual ABC Kite Fest on Sunday, April 14th, from 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. This event includes a kite-flying contest, bounce houses, and even a children’s music concert!

This Aquarium has so many fish and animals! There are sharks, stingrays, giant Pacific octopus, lorikeets, macaws, reptiles, and amphibians. Plus, new mammals like kinkajous and lemurs. The best part is you can pet and feed them all. If you visit, you might even spot a Mermaid or Princess!

The center lets kids explore and discover the natural Austin environment and learn about geology, animals, paleontology, astronomy, and more!

The mission of Austin Zoo is to help animals in need through rescue, conservation, and education. Embark on an adventure in a Hill Country setting where children and adults can enjoy an up-close experience with rescued animals. You will be able to see lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

Located just outside of Austin in Georgetown, Inner Space Cavern is a karst cave discovered in the 1960s. It is a wonderful spot to learn about geology and the formation of minerals and even has gemstone panning.

The Thinkery is an evolution of the Austin Children’s Museum. Austin’s sparkling new home for “why” and “how.” It is the place where science and families play side by side, people connect with ideas by doing, making, and experiencing, and offers the Baby Bloomers program for ages 0–36 months.

If you need a sweet treat, Big Top is a must-see! Dubbed “The Most Amazing Candy Store the World has Ever Known,” they offer over 3,000 wrapped candies in an antique circus atmosphere. In addition, they have an old-fashioned soda fountain, ice cream, fudge, and much more to satisfy your sweet tooth.
