American Gem Society Code of Conduct

Conclave 2024

The American Gem Society (AGS) is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants at our annual education conference, Conclave. This Code of Conduct outlined establishes the expectations for behavior and serves to ensure a positive and enriching experience for all attendees. By participating in Conclave, all members agree to abide by this Code of Conduct.

  1. Respect and Professionalism:
Treat all conference participants, including fellow attendees, speakers, sponsors, AGS staff members, and service providers, with respect and professionalism. Engage in constructive dialogue and maintain a courteous demeanor at all times.
  2. Inclusivity and Diversity:
Embrace diversity and inclusivity by welcoming attendees of all backgrounds, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law. Foster an atmosphere that encourages collaboration, understanding, and mutual respect.
  3. Harassment and Discrimination:
AGS has a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment, discrimination, or any form of offensive behavior. Harassment includes, but is not limited to, unwelcome comments, jokes, gestures, or physical contact that denigrates or discriminates against an individual based on their protected characteristics. Treat all participants with dignity and respect, avoiding any behavior that may create an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment.
  4. Appropriate Language and Conduct:
Use appropriate and inclusive language when communicating with fellow attendees. Refrain from engaging in demeaning, derogatory, or offensive speech or behavior that targets individuals or groups based on their characteristics. Maintain a professional and respectful tone during discussions, presentations, and social interactions.
  5. Confidentiality and Privacy:
Respect the confidentiality and privacy of others. Obtain explicit consent before sharing personal information or publishing any content, including photographs or recordings, that may identify or infringe upon the privacy of attendees.
  6. Compliance with Laws and Policies:
Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and venue policies. Respect and follow the guidelines and rules set forth by AGS and the conference organizers. This includes any rules related to health and safety, intellectual property, copyright, and data protection.
  7. Reporting Procedure:
If you witness or experience any violations of this Code of Conduct, promptly report the incident to the AGS compliance officer, Janice Brooks, at the event or by email at [email protected], or any other member of the AGS staff. Provide detailed information about the incident, including the individuals involved, the time and location, and any supporting evidence. Reports will be treated with confidentiality and addressed in a timely manner.
  8. Consequences of Violation:
Violation of this Code of Conduct may result in appropriate actions taken by AGS, ranging from a warning or reprimand to immediate removal from Conclave without refund (and notification to participant’s employer, as appropriate). Serious or repeated violations may also result in being prohibited from attending future AGS events.

By following this Code of Conduct, we can create an atmosphere that fosters collaboration, learning, and respect for all attendees at Conclave. We appreciate your commitment to upholding these standards and contributing to a successful and inclusive event.
