Four Ways to Promote Your Credential
Tuesday, November 1, 2016
Have you taken your annual recertification exam? If so, congratulations! If not, don’t forget the deadline is Tuesday, November 15. Just click here, sign into your account, and take the exam!
Here’s an interesting statistic: in our last membership survey, 81.2% of respondents said that credentials were the most important benefit. With something valued so highly, why not promote it?
Here are four suggestions on how to let your customers and community know about this great achievement!
- Display it! Frame your recent certification, hang it up or place it on your counter. When customers notice it, you can talk to them with pride about your credential. You are not only establishing yourself as a professional jeweler who takes education seriously, but you are setting your store apart, and helping us build the AGS brand—one consumer at a time! Check out how Underwood's Jewelers in Florida displays all their certificates!
- Send out a press release. AGS has templates available that you can customize and email to your local press. And don't just send it to the press: email it to your customers, too!
Take a look at our Member Templates and log in if prompted. Here’s a view of the Member Templates, showing the various press releases available for each credential.
- Submit a notification to your local business publication. Most of these publications provide an online submission form for readers to submit short notices sharing news of promotions, credentials and other related updates. Here's a sample template you can use for these purposes. Just copy, paste, and fill in the fields where indicated by brackets:
[Your Name] with [Your Store] in [City] has been [fill in certified OR recertified] as a member of the American Gem Society (AGS) and has retained the title of [fill in title].
Successful completion of a mandatory annual exam is required to maintain membership in the Society, a trade organization founded in 1934 and dedicated to proven ethics, knowledge and consumer protection within the jewelry industry. The exam completed by [Your Name] covered questions relevant to gemology, the jewelry industry, and ethics, and are designed to ensure that its members have the most current information needed to provide customers with accurate and knowledgeable service.
Only one in twenty jewelers have met the exacting requirements necessary for membership. To join AGS, every member must go through a peer-reviewed application process followed by an annual recertification exam. To learn more, visit AmericanGemSociety.org.
- You knew this one was coming: social media. We've seen members promote their credentials in creative ways. Some ideas include posting a photo of you printing off your recertification, or standing next to a framed copy of it on the wall. Ask a question: “Do you know why this piece of paper is so important?” Use the Content Portal, which has social media-ready posts you can copy and share. Click here to access the Content Portal. You may be prompted to log in.
