Conclave has several great events for you to choose from, including our dynamic general sessions. Scroll down to see our overview of what is planned for each day. Enjoy mingling with other members of the outstanding AGS community; these events are a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and make news ones!

Sunday, April 26

New Member Reception / 4:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

If you are a new member of the American Gem Society (AGS), make plans to arrive at Conclave in time for a special reception just for you: the New Member Reception. It’s a great opportunity to meet fellow new members, members of the AGS Board of Directors, and the team at AGS.

After the reception, there are even more chances to get to know the AGS community at the Mentor Mixer and annual Guilds Party.

Please note that this event is open for members that joined the community from 2018-2020.

Mentor Mixer / 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Once your bags are unpacked, head over to the Mentor Mixer, located inside the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel. This annual event is a great way to kick off Conclave.

At the Mentor Mixer, you’ll learn more about the AGS Mentor Program and will find out how you can participate as either a mentor or mentee. You’ll also have the chance to discuss opportunities in your business with other members.

There will be appetizers and libations. Don’t miss the Mentor Mixer!

AGS Guilds Party / 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

After the Mentor Mixer, the fun continues! Join your fellow Guildies for the annual Conclave Guild party. Network with members of your Guild or other regional Guilds. This is a great chance to make new friends!

Enjoy appetizers and an open bar.

Monday, April 27

JFC Rings of Strength Charity 5K / 6:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.

Join Jewelers for Children (JFC) and the American Gem Society (AGS) community on Monday, April 27 for the AGS Conclave edition of JFC’s Rings of Strength 5K.

Rings of Strength has helped raise over $350,000 for JFC, and in 2020, they will be holding their premier event in four cities, including Denver, CO. Each event features a 5K route that you can walk, jog, or run—whatever you desire!

Start the first day of Conclave 2020 on the right foot (or the left), and help raise money for children in need.

Professional Headshots / 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Need a professional headshot? The Young Titleholders understand how important a great photo can be in your career. They are offering a day of headshots in the Networking Area during Conclave—for free! This is a great opportunity to get a professional photo of yourself!

Opening Keynote Speaker/ 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

The official start of Conclave! The event you’ve been waiting for all year starts with an entertaining and inspirational opening session. You’ll hear from the AGS Board of Directors President, John Carter, CGA, and Katherine Bodoh, RJ, CEO, AGS and AGS Laboratories, as well as our captivating Opening Keynote speaker, Henry Winkler. Coffee and Dessert Break / 2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

There’s no doubt that Conclave is a fast-paced schedule jammed into three days. The afternoon Coffee and Dessert breaks are a great chance to recharge, refuel, and mingle. Located in the networking area, catch up with old friends and make new ones. The Coffee and Dessert breaks are also a great opportunity to visit networking booths and thank your suppliers for their support of Conclave. It’s a short but sweet opportunity to relax before your next class begins!

AGS Suppliers’ Reception and Showcase / 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

This popular event is a Conclave Opening Night tradition! What better way to top off the first day of Conclave than being surrounded by incredible jewelry, a sumptuous buffet, and fabulous friends and colleagues! It’s your chance to get a close look at the gems and jewelry from the best suppliers in the industry, AGS Suppliers!

AGS Young Titleholders Trivia Night / 9:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

Put your knowledge to the test and join the AGS Young Titleholders for a night of trivia. Every year, the event includes heated competition, banging on the tables, and hysterical laughter. Who’s going to take this year’s Trivia Night title? Everyone is welcome!

Tuesday, April 28

Breakfast Keynote / 8:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.

Titleholders Luncheon / 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Nothing shows your commitment to consumer protection and business ethics more than your AGS title. Join us in acknowledging all credentialed members of the Society at the annual Titleholders Luncheon.

AGS titleholders have stood out among other jewelers in the industry as credentialed professionals. These credentials set AGS jewelers apart by demonstrating their commitment to continuing education and superior business ethics. This is an important event during Conclave; a time when we come together to celebrate the embodiment of the American Gem Society’s mission: the Society’s titleholders!

At this don’t-miss event, we will also present awards for the Young Titleholder of the Year, our annual Guild of the Year Award, the Sallie Morton Award, and the John J. Kennedy Award.

Wednesday, April 29

Membership Breakfast and Closing Keynote / 8:45 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.

Join us for the annual Membership Breakfast, where we will conduct the Society’s official business. You’ll hear from leadership within the AGS on new developments, and have an opportunity to vote on the AGS Board of Directors for the upcoming year. We’ll also honor those Board of Director members who have served their term and are rolling off of the Board.

Robert M. Shipley Award® Luncheon / 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Robert M. Shipley, founder of both the American Gem Society and the Gemological Institute of America, is the father of organized gemological research and education in the United States. His significant contributions paved the way for a more honorable, dignified and professional jewelry industry.

The first Robert M. Shipley award was given in 1968 in honor of our founder. In the years following, it’s grown to become the most revered recognition in not just the American Gem Society, but one of the most honored recognitions in our industry.

Today, anyone who has ever been to Conclave knows that in the days leading up to the Shipley Award Luncheon, the buzz at Conclave is always on this singular question: Who is this year’s winner?

Be a part of this historic and important event, as the American Gem Society unveils the recipient of the 2020 Robert M. Shipley Award.
