The American Gem Society is seeking a Membership Operations Manager who will be responsible for the daily operations and execution of AGS’s membership programs. This role focuses on recruitment, retention, member engagement, and cross-department collaboration. You’ll supervise a small team, manage events and campaigns, and ensure the accuracy of member data, reporting to the Director of Membership.

The American Gem Society (AGS) is a nonprofit trade association of fine jewelry professionals dedicated to consumer protection, business ethics, and gemological expertise. As a 501(c)(6) organization, AGS supports the jewelry industry with high standards and integrity.

Essential Functions

Membership Operations

  • Drive recruitment and retention efforts in collaboration with the Director of Membership
  • Develop and manage Membership Touchpoint Maps, workflows, and campaign calendars
  • Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to streamline operations
  • Manage the department calendar to ensure alignment with strategic priorities

Event & Tradeshow Coordination

  • Plan and manage trade show logistics including booth setup, marketing materials, staff scheduling and travel
  • Collaborate with Marketing on campaigns and event promotions

Data & Reporting

  • Ensure data accuracy and CRM integrity with the Data Analyst
  • Generate regular membership reports for leadership
  • Manage Basecamp projects and workflows within internal database
  • Assist with grievance and review coordination with senior leadership

Member Engagement

  • Respond to member and prospect inquiries
  • Identify and implement automation tools to improve communication
  • Represent AGS at industry events (some travel, evenings, and weekends required)

Competencies

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Effective written and verbal communication
  • Experience supervising staff or contractors
  • Strong customer service mindset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, association management systems (AMS), and learning management systems (LMS)

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field required.
  • 5–7 years of membership operations and management experience (nonprofit preferred)

Our regular work schedule is 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, Pacific Time. Additional hours will be required with this position.
