Richard Drucker, GIA GG, is the president of Gemworld International, Inc. in Glenview, Illinois. His credentials include: Graduate Gemologist of the Gemological Institute of America; Honorary Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain; Senior Member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers; Senior Gemologist, Accredited Gemologists Association.

As a third generation in the jewelry industry, he began a pricing publication in 1982 now known as the GemGuide. This publication is used in more than 40 countries and is the industry leader in gem pricing and market information. In 2002, he became the owner of GemGuide Appraisal Software used by more than 1,000 jewelry appraisers. In 2014 he co-developed the World of Color nomenclature and grading system for colored gemstones, now being used and taught by several organizations worldwide.

Richard has been active in the jewelry industry for more than 35 years serving as an officer and board member of various industry organizations. In 2000 he received an Alumni Leadership award for exemplary service from the Gemological Institute of America Alumni & Associates for his role as first chair of the Alumni International Board of Governors. In 2006, he was bestowed the Antonio C. Bonanno Excellence in Gemology industry award. In 2012 he was awarded honorary fellowship in the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (FGA). Richard now serves as publisher, appraiser, consultant, lecturer, and author. He has hosted five international gemological conferences brining gemologists, jewelers and appraisers together from around the world.

Mission Statement

The American Gem Society (AGS) is a nonprofit trade association of fine jewelry professionals dedicated to setting, maintaining and promoting the highest standards of ethical conduct and professional behavior through education, accreditation, recertification of its membership, gemological standards, and gemological research.

The Society is committed to providing educational products to inform and protect the consumer and to contributing to the betterment of the trade by creating industry standards to protect the jewelry-buying public and the fine jewelry industry as a whole.

AGS Laboratories, founded to support the AGS mission, is a nonprofit diamond grading laboratory with a mission of consumer protection. Adhering to the AGS Diamond Grading Standards, AGS Laboratories is dedicated to offering diamond grading reports that provide consistency and accuracy based on science.
