December 12, 2014. Las Vegas, NV, The American Gem Society recently presented a $10,000 check from the Jewelers for Children (JFC) to The Children’s Heart Foundation (CHF) as part of a Local Grant Program. JFC, a non-profit organization founded by the jewelry industry in 1999, is dedicated to helping children in need. The charity launched a Local Grant Program in 2013 and continued again this year.  The goal is to fund ten $10,000 grants for local children’s charities around the country. Organizations in the jewelry industry were asked to nominate their favorite local organization, and the American Gem Society nominated CHF.  Public voting on the Jewelers for Children Facebook page (www.facebook.com/JewelersforChildren) determined the charities to receive the grants.

“We are so excited to be able to help The Children’s Heart Foundation,” says Ruth Batson, CEO of The American Gem Society. “It was very personal to us. One our employees at The American Gem Society has a daughter who has been personally helped by The Children’s Heart Foundation, and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to work with them, and present this grant in hopes that it will help others!”

More than 15,000 people were motivated to visit the Jewelers for Children Facebook page and vote for their favorite local charity. The American Gem Society worked in conjunction with The Children’s Heart Foundation to encourage people to vote.  Their efforts paid off.

ABOUT THE CHILDREN’S HEART FOUNDATION

Children’s Heart Foundation (CHF) was founded by a unique and passionate group of parents and Nevada pediatric cardiologists who have gained firsthand knowledge of the emotional and financial toll exacted by a child’s heart condition. Since 2001, all have been eager to provide appropriate services for heart children and their families. The Children’s Heart Foundation is committed to making a difference in the lives of children with heart conditions.

In Nevada alone, more than 350 children are born each year with significant heart disease requiring either intensive medications or surgery. An additional 150 to 250 of Nevada’s children and newborns may develop a heart problem due to infections, Kawasaki disease or Rheumatic fever. Hundreds more will exhibit problems with heartbeat irregularities requiring medications or specialized procedures.

It’s important for all children to laugh and play, especially those born with lifelong medical conditions which is why CHF is committed to the well-being of these Nevada children.
