Dr. Simon Lawson
Dr. Simon Lawson is Head of Research & Development at the DTC Research Centre, Maidenhead.
Following his BSc in Physics, Simon obtained his PhD in optical spectroscopy of diamond at King’s College London in 1990.
He was then awarded a Royal Society Fellowship to study growth and characterisation of synthetic diamond at the National Institute for Research in Inorganic materials in Japan where he stayed for 4 years before joining the DTC as a Research Scientist in 1995 – having published over 30 scientific papers on diamond spectroscopy.
Simon was promoted to Senior Scientist in 2001 and then to Senior Project Manager of Consumer Confidence Technical Research in 2004 where he played a key role in the development of the various DTC Verification instruments used to identify synthetics and treated diamonds. Simon received a Chairman’s award in 2004 for his contributions to the Consumer Confidence Programme and became Head of the Physics Department in May 2005.
In April 2009 Simon was promoted to Head of Research & Development and in this role he ensures that the DTC Research Centre, Maidenhead is fully and efficiently aligned with the strategic objectives of both the DTC and Forevermark and that it continues to provide value -adding differentiating technology to the group.
