Take the next step in your career and become a Certified Gemologist® (CG). Apply for the American Gem Society (AGS) and GIA Beatrice Shipley Scholarship!

AGS and GIA created the Beatrice Shipley Scholarship to honor Mrs. Shipley, wife of AGS and GIA founder, Robert M. Shipley. She was a significant contributor to the history and development of both organizations as a business partner and operations manager.

This opportunity provides one candidate with a full scholarship to AGS education courses to earn their AGS Certified Gemologist® (CG) title and full tuition for the GIA Graduate Gemologist® (GG) Program. The recipient will be selected by AGS.

Additionally, the recipient will receive a complimentary registration to Conclave, September 14–17, 2026, in Orlando, FL. Hotel accommodations and travel are not included.

To complete the application, you will need to:

  • Write a personal statement discussing the importance and timeline for achieving your Graduate Gemologist® diploma and completing the American Gem Society coursework.
  • Prepare a plan that outlines your vision for creating a positive impact on the jewelry industry.

The application deadline is Friday, May 22, 2026. The recipient selected by AGS will be notified by Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Terms and Conditions

Important Dates

The following deadlines must be met as part of the conditions of the scholarship:

  • Enroll in the awarded GIA education by August 31, 2026.
  • For online courses, enroll in the first course by August 31, 2026.
  • Complete the RJ (AGS Way Course) by February 27, 2029.
  • Complete the awarded GIA education by December 1, 2028.

Restrictions

  • This scholarship is non-transferable.
  • The complimentary registration to Conclave is non-transferable, has no cash value, and is only valid during the event dates of September 14-17, 2026.
