The Certified Gemologist Appraiser Exam:

The Certified Gemologist Appraiser Exam is required for the prestigious title of Certified Gemologist Appraiser and is available to retail members who are Graduate Gemologists of the GIA or an FGA and DGA of Gem-A (the Gemmological Association of Great Britain). Requisites include a half-day seminar entitled "Appraisals I & II" and a theory exam based on the book, The Practical Guide to Jewelry Appraising by Cos Altobelli. The practical exam includes a formal written appraisal of specific jewelry items.

All CGAs must complete a Colorvision screening, and the member store must maintain an Accredited Gem Lab.
