Alethea Inns, CGA, is the Director of Gemology & Education for the American Gem Society. She was formerly the Director of Diamond Grading for the AGS Laboratories. She has her MS in Nonprofit Management and Project Management from Northeastern University. She obtained her Hons. B.Sc. in Geology from McMaster University and her Graduate Gemologist, Accredited Jewelry Professional, Graduate Pearls, and Jewelry Business Management diplomas from GIA. She is working on completing her Fellowship of Gem-A (FGA) with the Gemmological Association of Great Britain.
Alethea started her career with the Gemological Institute of America’s Laboratory where she worked for Identification Services, specializing in the theory and practice of diamond grading, fancy colored diamonds and colored stone identification. In addition to her Certified Gemologist® Appraiser credential, Alethea holds her E-Learning Instructional Design Certificate and Articulate Storyline certificates, her Certified Virtual Event Planner Certificate (CVEP), and Lean Foundations, Lean Six Sigma Champion, and Lean Six Sigma White Belt certifications.
Alethea is a gemological subject matter expert for both the AGS and AGS Laboratories, bylaws and membership manual expert for the AGS, and is responsible for overseeing the AGS and AGS Laboratories efforts to expand educational course development, administration, and offerings in conjunction with the AGS values of ethical business practices, continuing education, and consumer protection.
