The Arizona Guild Presents

A Rare Talk with Intarsia Master Nicolai Medvedev and Renown Jewelry Designer/Goldsmith Susan Helmich

Allow yourself to be amazed and enchanted by the wonder of intarsia and its incomparable master: Nicolai Medvedev. Intarsia is the art of taking different pieces of stone (high-quality lapis lazuli, malachite, sugilite, opal, azurite, tourmaline, rhodochrosite and others) of varying shapes, sizes and materials and fitting them so closely together that the effect appears and feels seamless. This time consuming and detail oriented endeavor is one of the most difficult forms of lapidary art, resulting in beautiful works of art, ready to grace a desk, cabinet or exhibition case in The Smithsonian, in the case of Nicolai. An article was written about him and his art in Gems & Gemology, Winter 1986.

Accompanying Nicolai will be the creative and world renowned jewelry artist and goldsmith, Susan Helmich. They have collaborated on a piece of jewelry that will be donated to the Smithsonian permanent collection. It is not yet finished, so we will be the first to hear about and experience what happens when two great artists join forces to create something new. The results can only be spectacular.

Join us as for our grand finale of 2017—it will be grand!
