Diamonds / ASET® Technology
What quality of diamond should you buy? Beautiful diamonds are available to fit most budgets, but the beauty is in the diamond – not just the grade stated on a report. The precise criteria for evaluating the quality of a diamond is commonly known as the four Cs – Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat weight. But, did you know that color, clarity, and carat weight are merely rarity factors? And, the rarer the diamond the higher the price.
Cut, however, is a beauty factor and its quality can affect the price by as much as 50% or more! This makes it very important to understand the differences in cut. It isn’t just the shape of the cut – round, princess, oval, etc. It’s the knowledge, expertise, and skill of the cutter to be able to place those tiny facets on a diamond at the correct angles. And, it’s the jeweler who has the knowledge, expertise, and integrity to recognize and choose the most beautifully cut diamonds for you.
The American Gem Society Laboratories was the first professional laboratory to issue a grading report on the cut of a diamond (1996) and the only grading laboratory to issue a cut grade on fancy shaped diamonds. As the only laboratory licensed to use the American Gem Society Diamond Grading Standards, it issues the Diamond Quality® Certificate - the only true certificate which documents the cut, color, clarity, and carat weight and provides a guarantee of quality from the American Gem Society member jeweler who sells you the diamond. Proven Ethics, Knowledge, and Consumer Protection: that’s what every American Gem Society member pledges to you, the customer.
